Hey there, you! Thanks for dropping by to share this little patch of digital dirt for a moment. This blog is really an open-ended experiment in journaling, and as such I have no idea yet what it will end up being “about”, so to speak. All I can say with all honesty here is that the posts will be regular (though the frequency is yet to be determined), and that they will focus on the thoughts that flash across the jumbotron-betwixt-ears that is my mind brain. The rest, we shall see!
This blog’s creation coincides with the beginning of my attempt to thru-hike (hike a long trail start to finish in one continuous effort) the Pacific Crest Trail, a national scenic footpath that traverses the highest points along a route roughly parallel to the US west coast, from the US-Mexico border to the US-Canada boundary. It’s been on my bucket list for almost two decades, and thanks to my life sort of imploding at the end of last year, a unique chance emerged to finally give this one a go.
Given that circumstance, there’s a solid chance of things in this blog trending toward outdoorsy-hiking-mountain manly things…but I think about all kinds of stuff while I walk long distances, and don’t plan to hold back. It’ll be what it’ll be, and if I’ve learned anything in my 44 years driving an Eric-shaped meat tractor around, it’s this: the key is to focus not so much on what will be, and just be here for what is right now.
I hope you all enjoy taking in some of these experiences, and that maybe some of what I learn can help others learn, too. And if there’s anything you’re DYING to know about this experience, use the contact button to drop me a line!
